Gillis d' Hondecoeter

Painter of Flemish origin, mainly active in Utrecht and Amsterdam. His father Nicolaes Jansz fled from Antwerp to Delft around 1585. Around 1600 he was working in Utrecht, moved to Amsterdam in 1615. Married Marijke Gijbrechts in 1602, and after her death married Anna Spierinx in 1628. Father of Gijsbert d'Hondecoeter and grandfather of the more successful Melchior d'Hondecoeter and Jan Weenix.
