Biography
Reproductive etcher, working in London. presumably the same man as etched satires.
presumably the John Barlow who on Jan 30 1786 entered the RA Schools as aged '26 25th last December'. His may be the trade cards for 'John Barlow/ Engraver/ No 39/ New George Street/ Blackfriars Road/ Seals Neatly Engraved' aquired by Miss Banks in 1786 (Banks 59.10 and 11). Although his name appears primarily on plates in periodicals he was obviously running a profitable business and was able to command a premium of 125 guineas in 1790 when he took on John Douglas. He was in St George's Place, Blackfriars in October 1804. The latest prints attributed to him are in the second decade of the 19th century.
