Metal relief print (procédé Comte) from the 1882 edition of Théophile Gautier's book "Nature at Home (La Nature chez Elle)" published by Bradbury, Agnew & Co. in London and G. Charpentier in Paris. The sophisticated facsimiles in the second edition of this book were based on the 37 etchings Bodmer contributed to the first, deluxe edition of Gautier's book "La Nature chez Elle" that was published in 1870 by Marc/Imprimerie de l'Illustration in Paris.

See review of the 1882 English edition of Gautier's book published in "The Athenaeum" (No. 2873, December 23, 1882), p. 854: "The drawings [sic] of Karl Bodmer, well known in the original illustrated edition of the work, have suffered nothing in being reproduced and reprinted...See 'Autumnal Lacework,' a cobweb and foliage of delicate draughtsmanship, showing the complex structure of the web and the foreshortening of some of its planes."
