Chicago-based Sullivan was one of America’s premier architects at the close of the 19th century. He developed an independent architectural vocabulary that included both intricately stylized organic forms and a strong emphasis on vertical line. Sullivan is best known for his declaration “Form ever follows function. This is law.”
