Physical Qualities Cloth, glass beads, thread, velvet, yarn, 43 1/2 × 18 1/2 in. (110.5 × 47 cm.)
Credit Line Gift of Mr. and Mrs. John Kernan Slingluff, Baltimore
Object Number 1992.116
Bandolier bag without pocket ie ceremonial only. dark yellow backing; bottom has beaded tabs in red, transparent, blue, pink beads and purple and yellow yarn tassles for fringe. Main beaded panel is framed with brown velvet onto which is stitched translucent white beads in zigzag pattern. Main panel and shoulder strap have opaque white beaded background with multicolored flowers and leaves on black beaded vine. Leaves and flowers vary in color: green, blue, pink, yellow, red, with decorative elements ('veins' etc.) in contrasting colors.
Family oral history said that the bag had come to Mr. Slingluff's family from Tecumseh but appraiser's research did not confirm this and it is highly unlikely as design is early 20th century and Tecumseh died in 1813.
