Albert Alexander Smith spent most of his career in Paris, moving permanently in 1920 after military service abroad in World War I. Creating more than 220 prints, drawings, and paintings in his lifetime, Smith’s work dealt with subject matter including racial discrimination and stereotypes, European tourist scenes, and rural southern scenes of Black American life as seen here.
