Victorian period black beaded purse. Bag is of crocheted construction with beads of black jet set in rows of checkerboards (3 and 5) and slanted rectangles (2) with a single row of looped fringe just below first checkerboard row. A silk grosgrain ribbon threads through 1/2 inch diameter tortoise-shell-like bakelite rings around opening of bag that gathers opening shut. Inside fabric is of black and gold brocade or black with metallic-wrapped supplementary (flat coppery) threads (similar to Chinese kinran) in a floral design. Bottom of bag has a bell-like looped fringe tassel.
