English-made wares decorated with American scenes were extremely popular with American consumers during the first half of the 19th century. The Old State House in Boston, built in 1713, is the city’s oldest surviving public building. This decorated pap boat offered a nurse or mother a little story to tell when feeding a child or an invalid.
