Created by coiling, this basket is ornamented with the design named "rattlesnake." These "treasure baskets" were used to store items of value including shell money. In the 19th century the Yokuts recognized two forms of shell money. One consisted of strings of shell disks. The other form consisted of long perforated shell cylinders.
