A rag-tag group cavorts with boxes and sticks on a street corner in this most carnivalesque of Kanemitsu’s drawings. The subject is difficult to identify, and the image appears simultaneously menacing and playful. Perhaps this is an image of displaced individuals drawn from the darker, more anxious quarters of Kanemitsu’s imagination, or perhaps this is simply a group of young children whiling away their free time with make-believe.
