One of a pair, this three-light candelabrum was the height of fashion in London, but it bears the initials JAD, recording its up-to-date owners, John and Ann Donnell of Baltimore. Early in the 19th century, the Donnells purchased Willow Brook, a country retreat which stood on an elevated site overlooking both the city and the Patapsco River. Filled with American, European, and Asian objects of decorative art, the house was noted for its elegant appointments.
