Sophisticated and well executed, this demilune (half moon shaped) Baltimore card table is thought to have descended in the family of Samuel Chase (1741-1811), who signed the Declaration of Independence as a representative of Maryland. George Washington later nominated Chase as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Two Chinese export plates bearing the Chase family crest are displayed on the mantelpiece in this gallery.
