Like Artschwager’s sculpture, this utilitarian table has opposing qualities. Its beautifully patterned wood is both lightweight and strong, while its three-board construction combines rectangular planes and oval voids. The elegant simplicity of the table’s form is achieved through complex joinery. Ultimately these contradictions are resolved in a unified form that transforms a functional table into a work of art.
