Silver coffeepot made by Simon Wedge, Sr., c. 1810. Part of a 5-piece coffee/tea set. This coffeepot's ovoid shape is balanced on either side by an S-shaped spout with an applied leaf at the tip and an Empire-style bracket wooden handle. It is raised upon an oval, stepped pedestal foot. The body is ornamented with deep gadrooning, and the domed, hinged lid is topped with an urn finial. There is a band of narrow reeding around the top opening. One side is engraved 'IAR' in a beautiful foliate script.

Markings: Stamped letters/mark in separate reserves: "S", "W", eagle's head facing left inside an oval (considered his earliest mark), side of foot rim
