Subtle ripples across this cream pitcher and sugar bowl capture the hammer marks of silversmith Emery W. Todd. Inside, a shimmering gold wash highlights his faceted surface. In 1910, Todd and designer Clemencia Cosio founded the TC Shop, which specialized in handwrought silver objects, flatware, and jewelry. Located in Chicago’s Fine Arts Building near the Art Institute of Chicago, their studio was housed within a vibrant circle of cutting-edge silversmiths working in the American Arts and Crafts tradition. These makers celebrated individual craftsmanship over the sleek planes and mass-produced forms of Machine-Age production.
