Credit Line Gift of Virginia P.B. White, Baltimore
Object Number 1933.54.40
An early example of the fully developed Empire style in Baltimore, this oval pitcher depends on bold but balanced ornamentation. The concave shoulder extends into an everted pouring lip balanced by an angular handle and heavy melon gadrooning. The pitcher rests on a rectangular plinth base with ball feet. Quickly machined, bands of milled ornament around the base, waist, and lip were time savers for silversmiths.
