Winters presents the same shape twice, with variations of shading and scale, as if providing multiple views of the object for careful analysis. The texture of the background and richness obtained by overlaying charcoal, black pastel, and lithographic crayon imbue the drawing with an emotive quality, going beyond the more formulaic illustrations that inspired it.
