White moved to the Boston area in 1965 to teach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he remained until 1974. The following year he retired from the seminal photography journal "Aperture", where he had been an editor since its founding in 1952. Diminishing health notwithstanding, White undertook his last major project, reprinting
12 of his most important compositions, made between 1947 and 1971, in the "Jupiter Portfolio".
