The artist is standing at a table looking through a viewfinder, his arm outstretched to a glass pane placed between him and the subject. The artist draws on the glass, and the viewfinder steadies his position so the perspective does not change through the course of the drawing. Later the image is traced or measured for transfer to paper or canvas.
