1900-1932

Physical Qualities Cotton and/or linen ground, cotton and/or silk embroidery threads, silk lining, 5 7/8 x 5 3/4 in. (14.9 x 14.6 cm.)
Credit Line Gift of Lillian L. Laird
Object Number 2011.340
Two sets of small square samples or napkins combining drawnthread work with additional embroidery, including Tenerife lace designs. The first two examples are identical in pattern. The rest, which appear to have been formed from somewhat coarser fabric, had designs that vary in the degree of drawn threadwork and the pattern of the needle embroidery creating the lace insets. Two examples are lined, the rest are not. All have narrow 1/4" borders with embroidery in silk threads and a fine, short silk fringe around all edges.
