In this elegant book, stanzas from Robert Creeley’s poem Edges harmonize with Katz’s minimal and linear imagery, here suggestive both of a coastline or the silhouette of trees against the sky. Creeley collaborated on more than 40 projects with visual artists over the course of his long career, from his early endeavors at Black Mountain College in the 1950s to his tenure teaching in the prestigious poetry program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Creeley found that such interdisciplinary dialogues extended, in the words of one critic, “the context of his work” and increased “the energy level of the words, both as physical objects and as potentially meaningful associations.”
