Physical Qualities Earthenware, polychrome, 13 H x 8 rim Diam. cm
Credit Line Gift of Mrs. Lester S. Levy
Object Number 1957.63
Polychrome painted bulbous jar representing Nasca dignitary, possibly "alive" (eyes open). As most effigy head jars, this example shows an upper register headdress and lower register face with eye markings. The headress motif is a flying, masked feline holding spear throwers in both hands. The dignitary's face is marked by black side burns, red square eye markings, and disk earrings pendant from the headdress. The nose is modeled.
