Narrow rectangular embroidered panel, possibly created from a border fragment of a larger textile such as a curtain, showing an undulating leafy vine with thorns and branching floral elements. Flowers include roses, lilies, and other unidentified blooms. Birds are perched on leaf ends. The linen ground is completely worked in white or off white silk floss threads using gobelin stitches. The leaves, birds, and other motifs are worked in greens, pinks (faded), yellows, blues, etc. using a variety of stitches including encroaching satin, knotted, and laid and couched stitches. Motifs are outlined in chain or split stitches that also are used to deliniate stems of leaves, petals of flowers, etc. The panel has been cut from a larger work and is not symmetrical. Its edges have been finished with a metallic trim approximately 1/2" wide with an inconspicuous woven design.
