Albert Marquet was a member of the Fauves, a group of artists led by Matisse who painted in bold, flat areas of expressive color during the first decade of the twentieth century. Although the Cones did not purchase any Fauve period paintings by Marquet, they did support him later in his career. The sisters acquired three maritime landscapes by him that were all painted in the 1920s.
