This enigmatic and partially unfinished sculpture was attributed to Kanemitsu after it was gifted to the BMA. It may be the artist’s sole surviving work in stone. Kanemitsu studied sculpture with Karl Metzler (1909–1995), a local artist and Maryland Institute College of Art graduate, who he met by chance one evening on his way home from trade school. The generative friendship between Metzler, Martenet, and Kanemitsu was memorialized in a group portrait formerly owned by Martenet.
