During the excavations at Antioch in the 1930s when the mosaic pavements in this court were unearthed, a number of sculptures and sculpture fragments were also discovered. Though this twisted female torso is missing the lower part of its right leg and nearly all of the left, it is possible to conclude that the left leg would have been thrust forward at a sharp angle, while the figure's weight would have rested on the right. Part of a support remains on the left leg near the hip. The right arm was originally attached by a dowel above the elbow.
