Practical but chic, large-scale serving items such as this gleaming food warmer and the resplendent coffee urn nearby reflect the move toward less formal entertaining in early 20th-century homes. The generous, geometric, simplified forms of these appliances conjure the spirit of modernity, also expressed by streamlined designs and chromium trim on automobiles of the period.
