Inscribed: Recto: in plate: "Fridericus Spanhemius Fr. F. Serenisso. Elect. Palat. à Consil. olim. in Heidelberg nune in Batavâ Acad. S. Literar. et Antiq. Prof. prim. Acad. à Biblioth. Aet. 50 A. 1683." Below this first inscription is a second: "Equatura patrem Spanhemius ora disertum Sic tulit, et multo pect a feta Deo. Spirat et in chartis facundia; major imago Quas habet ingentis nec moritura viri. Spirat inexhausto suppar doctrina labori Et testis Studii crebra lucerna sui. Da tabula vocem; vox etheris intima pandet. Sub hoc rotant prodiga mella favo." Lower left: "W. van Mieris delin." Lower center: "A. de Blois sculp." Lower right: "Nicolaus Heinsius, Dan. sil."
