Don was born in Guangzhou, China, and raised in Saigon, Vietnam. He was apprenticed to a photography studio at age 7 and after coming to the U.S. in 1979, he regularly returned to China and Vietnam to take photographs. Here, a woman follows her own youthful footsteps across terraced fields in Southwest China. Don emulated a long tradition in Chinese painting by adding an inscription: “...the road is long, but her spirits are high as she...makes her way back to her childhood home...”
