This technique is described by Beraldi as "un procédé imaginé par l'artiste pour faire mordre directement sur un dessin à la plume fait à l'encre de la petite vertu" and in I.F.F. as "procédé spécial" and it is discussed in Maxime Lalanne's Traité de la gravure à l'eau forte (Paris: Cadart & Luquet, 1866).
