Some of his contemporaries numbered Charles Green Shaw among the “Park Avenue Cubists.” With one foot in café society and the other in avant-garde art circles, this heir to part of the Woolworth fortune created works that were at once elegant and advanced. As Geometric Circuit attests, Shaw was particularly fond of repeating circles. Exercising his strong graphic sensibility, the artist scattered bright primary colors across a white field, then linked the shapes with thin black lines to achieve a satisfying balance. The lines are as reticent as the colors are bold. The title may refer to a method of analyzing and designing electronic circuits used in elementary electrical engineering textbooks.
