Silk on silk embroidery depicting a young woman standing in a garden watering flowers. Her face, hair, arms and hands are delicately drawn with great skill. She wears a simple classically inspired gold dress with buttons down the short sleeve. Her white or cream colored hat or bonnet is wide-brimed with a decorative band. She pours water from a reddish-gold water can onto a patch of flowers growing in a well-kept garden beside a large monument with a cassical urn partially covered with foliage. A large tree is to the left and a dog stands beside her. The background immediately behind the figure is covered for the most part with foliage, portrayed in knotted stitches. The sky is unworked and has very little color. The picture is embroidered in silk threads of various colors including gold, beige, cream, taupe, pink/rose, varying shades of blue-green, olive green, lt. olive green, light and medium taupe and shades of golden brown and light brown. Stitches, including long and short, used for shading and large areas, some stem stich for outlines, and knotted stitches used throughout for foliage are expertly worked. The work is framed in the original neoclassical style frame of wood covered in gesso and gilt with beading around the inner border. A black eglomisé glass mat with a wide and thin gold stripe around the oval opening and corner ornaments accents the embroidered picture.
