Chairs can be the work of more than one hand and cabinet shops pressed for time had the option of contracting carvers from other shops to contribute elements to a final product. It appears that two talented carvers contributed to this handsome Philadelphia side chair inspired by Thomas Chippendale’s designs in the Gothic taste. Durable leather was sometimes chosen for upholstery, sidestepping expensive imported textiles.
