After the painting by Ferdinand Bol in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich, inv.no.609; the painting was previously attributed to Rembrandt. This print is from a series of nine plates after Rembrandt paintings, "La Galerie Electorale de Düsseldorf" (Basel: 1778), all etched by Hess after paintings then in the collection of the Elector Palatine Karl Theodor in Düsseldorf. Most of these paintings are now in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
