Colonel Henry Maynadier (1759-1849) lived at Belvoir, near Annapolis, Maryland. According to an obituary, “He participated in many of the stirring scenes of the Revolutionary War, and served with eminent distinction; at the battle of Brandywine, in the capacity of surgeon in the army, he extracted a ball from the leg of Gen. Lafayette.” The painting retains its original frame.
