Recalling Japanese lacquer wares, this voluminous jardinière is more richly decorated than most earthenware pieces made at Minton’s ceramics factory. The planter is covered with stylized Japanesque floral decoration, executed in precious platinum and gold, scattered over a deep red ground. The ceramic base imitates an Asian carved wood stand on which precious porcelains were displayed.
