Using a large-format 8”x10” camera, Shibata seeks out “invisible” elements of infrastructure in the landscape: dams, bridges, walls, and roads. The ambiguity of this image is deliberate: the artist has explained that he tries “to eliminate reality, time, and any sense of specific place.”
