The 1908 "Kunstschau" (“Art Show”) was organized in honor of the 60th jubilee of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef I. The architect Josef Hoffmann designed a temporary structure with 54 rooms to showcase the work of 126 Austrian artists, including the paintings of Gustav Klimt and the creations of the Wiener Werkstätte. Berthold Löffler’s involvement with this large-scale public art project was manifold: he served as a member of the exhibitions committee; he displayed examples of his graphic designs and his ceramics (in 1906 Löffler co-founded Wiener Keramik with Michael Powolny); he curated an installation of contemporary poster art (please see image at right); and he designed the poster advertising the "Kunstschau" itself. Here the circular shape of the woman’s eye, the stylized flowers in her streaming hair, and the abstract pattern of her dress echo Löffler’s clever monogram at right center.
