Physical Qualities Etching with graphite and heightened with white, Sheet: 242 x 321 mm. (9 1/2 x 12 5/8 in.) Image: 161 x 267 mm. (6 5/16 x 10 1/2 in.)
Credit Line The George A. Lucas Collection, purchased with funds from the State of Maryland, Laurence and Stella Bendann Fund, and contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations throughout the Baltimore community
Object Number 1996.48.10784
Touched proof of first state, with extensive additions in graphite throughout image. Remarque: lower right, head of dog. It is unclear if Bracquemond or Chaplin did the graphite additions, however since there are numerous other touched proofs by Chaplin in the Lucas Collection, it is most likely that these additions are by Chaplin as well. According to Beraldi, the first state was done by Bracquemond after Chaplin and the second state has "quelques modifications de la main du peintre [Chaplin]."
