The design of this bowl, divided into panels filled with small circles, as well as its overglaze gilding and distinctive blue color identify this example of Lajvardina ware. The descriptive name comes from the Persian word for lapis lazuli. The bowl’s deep shape and the upright lotus leaves encircling its exterior derive from Chinese celadon wares of the period as seen on the BMA's bowl (BMA 1973.35.2).
