Based on Manet's painting, Boy with Dog, 1860-61 (Private Collection; Rouart and Wildenstein 47), which is itself based on a painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. From the 1874 Lemercier edition, originally believed to be an edition of 100, however as Fisher states "their rarity suggests a smaller edition."
