Like a tiny version of Aladdin’s lamp, this little teapot-shaped vessel is actually a cigar lighter. Elegant smoking rooms decorated and furnished in Near Eastern style were a popular feature of upscale homes during the Aesthetic Movement. Gorham competed with Tiffany’s and other firms to produce mixed metal objects in the late 19th century.
