The print is dedicated to Count Anatole Nikolaievich Demidov, 1st Prince of San Donato. After Ingres's 1820 painting of the Italian sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini (Louvre R.F. 1942-24).
The Lucas collection also holds a proof impression of the print with lettering by hand in graphite (1996.48.11193).
