Loulou Brouty was the only professional model who Matisse portrayed in his etchings made between 1914 and 1915. She had previously posed for several of his paintings in 1909, including Nude with a White Scarf. In his etchings of Brouty, Matisse played with presenting the model in a range of ages—from a young child to an older woman. She was often depicted wearing a jaunty hat.
