Man’s sleeveless dark brown wool waistcoat with 12 buttonholes on one side and 12 round brass buttons on the other. Both sides of the front opening and the apron of the waistcoat are heavily embroidered and feature two pockets with three-pointed flaps, also embroidered and ornamented with three round brass buttons (non-functioning). The embroidery is worked in white, green, bright yellow-green, two shades of blue, and purple silk threads. The back of the vest is of coarse cotton (or linen?) which also lines the front panels.

Inscribed: Many handwritten and stamped inscriptions are found inside the waistcoat on the lining: Stamped in blue ink on lining of upper right front panel is a blue oval with blue stamped lettering "OPERA COMIQUE/ Ag6" [this very indistinct] [handwritten in brown ink]/ "INVENTAIRE 1877" Stamped with blue ink on lining of upper right shoulder: "A2545" Handwritten in ink at same place "8." [crossed out with diagonal line/ "2." [crossed out with diagonal line]. Handwritten with ink on tape sewn to upper back neck "2C." Printed on larger tape sewn to upper neck area "E.961" [or possibly "964"] Printed on larger label handsewn inside back neck area: "OZOUF" Behind these labels is another stamped blue oval, but with unintelligible writing. Below all of these is a stamped rectangle with the letters: "OP189" Hand written in black ink on lining at upper left panel: "HUET" Handwritten in brown ink using script: Mithaus" Handwritten in ink below "20" Handwritten in pencil [?] in unusually large black letters: "13"
