Portrait of the artist, Charles Meryon, French, 1821-1868. Only around 10 proofs were printed from the original plate before it was destroyed; the image was then reproduced by "le procédé Amand-Durand" and later reduced and published in the journal "Gazette des Beaux-Arts" in 1884.
