Nnee moccasins were made of two pieces of leather: a rawhide sole and softer buckskin upper. They were decorated with beadwork on the top and around the heel, in a manner similar to moccasins of the Great Plains. Apache beadwork was an important identifier of tribal membership. The designs probably also conveyed meaning significant to the woman who made them, but this remains unknown.
The Baltimore Museum of Art by bequest, 1953; Florence Reese Winslow, Baraboo, WI.
