Motown belongs to a group of paintings that Franklin White made for his first solo exhibition in Washington, D.C. He focused on what mattered to him in his daily life: “a TV tray, new shoes in a box, my birthday cake, and of course the Motown record. I was looking at the way the light hit the record spinning around as it was playing. It was fun listening to the Motown sound as I was drawing the Motown record. My subjects have always been simple, humble, ordinary things that reflect what I am doing.”
