Baltimore-born designer Betty Cooke’s hammered silver necklace splits into three lines: an upward curve around the neck and two feather-like forms that float across the neckline. Cooke is a celebrated pioneer of Studio Craft, a mid-20thcentury artistic movement that valued handmade objects over manufactured designs. To kickstart her career in the early 1940s, she hitchhiked with a friend across America, hand-delivering her work to jewelry stores.
