Lê, a self-trained photographer, was born in the Mekong Delta. His images of evening and nightfall serve as metaphors for war weary Vietnam in 1973–1974. Here, fishermen and their families, who live aboard their boats, have settled close to shore for the night. Lê arrived in the U.S. in 1975, following the end of the Vietnam War. He taught photography at Salisbury State College in Maryland (1976–1977) before relocating to Southern California.
